Amazon.com The second season of Sealab 2021, the Cartoon Network's certifiably bizarre reworking of Hanna-Barbera's earnest 1972 animated series Sealab 2020, surfaces in a two-disc set that includes an unaired episode and supplemental features that place a strong emphasis on "mental." For series devotees, season 2 is a must-have, thanks to its lineup of memorable episodes, including "Stimutacs," which fans voted as the series' best episode; the behind-the-scenes chaos of "Swimming in Oblivion"; "Hail, Squishface," which tosses jabs at Star Trek's "Trouble with Tribbles" episode; and the aptly named "Bizarro," which pits the Sealab crew against their evil doubles. As with most Adult Swim programming from Cartoon Network, viewers will either "get" Sealab 2021, or find its kitchen-sink loopiness indigestible, but one has to admire the producers' ability to spin this recycled footage into the most outlandish plots with such regularity. Said producers (co-creators Adam Reed and Matt Thompson) are present on some freewheeling commentary tracks for all 13 episodes in the set, though viewers hoping for some insight into the show might find the chatter mostly dispensable; however, the inclusion of a rough cut of "Ronnie," the series' only unaired episode, more than makes up for the commentaries, as do hilarious interviews with the cast (which includes Erik Estrada and Brett Butler), and a tour of the production company, both of which are dominated by girls in bikinis (who also give a read-through of the script for "Der Dieb"). The sole sober note on the set is struck by an affectionate tribute to voice-over legend Harry Goz, who provided the voice for the addled Captain Murphy before passing away in 2003. It's rare for a DVD's supplemental extra to match the same tone as the main feature, but the season 2 set manages to stay nearly 100% Bizarro from start to finish. --Paul Gaita

The Best Season of Sealab June 14, 2010 Dan Petter (Katy, TX United States) This show is almost tragic(if you take your comedy as seriously as I do) because it couldve been Adult Swim's flagship show, even to this day, but Mr. Goz, the voice actor behind captain murphy died of terminal lymph cancer, and his character was of course replaced, and the show just couldnt quite get back on course after that.
That being said, this is where most of the best episodes are at. There are some REALLY good Murphy episodes here, the one where Murphy is trying to find a Golf Pro shop for the whole episode is one of my favorites. Even the blackout episode, which is just fifteen minutes of dialog with a picture of sealab in the background, is absolutely hilarious.
Non-sequiter fun May 6, 2010 K. Donovan (Olympia, WA USA) Sealab is a great show if you're looking for a little nonsense. There are some very enjoyable episodes in this season including an episode of sealab as it was intended originally. In my opinion it's a great buy.
Not as great as season 1 but still hilarous January 30, 2010 joysyear (Santa Monica, CA USA) I love sealab 2021 was really excited when season 2 came out but it didn't have the same whit as season 1 however the other seasons following got much better
If you love Sealab October 28, 2009 banshii (AZ) I am so glad I bought this set. It does have the best episodes. I'm playing it for people who have never heard of Sealab and can't believe how funny it is. My only complaint is they don't show the late-great Harry Goz actually doing Captain Murphy. That would have been incredible. I have been a fan of Adult Swim from the beginning before it was taken over by Seth Green (big fan)and overrun with reruns of prime-time fare, Family Guy and King of the Hill (love them). I yearn for the return of Brak and Space Ghost Coast-to-Coast. At least Harvey Birdman and Home Movies can still be seen, if you have a recorder or care to stay up till right before dawn.
If you have a sense of humor at all you will love Sealab 2021!
Funny as hell December 22, 2008 E. G. (Seattle, WA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bizarro! episode was my favorite but I bought seasons 1-4 and have enjoyed everyone of them equally. Besides, if you buy Season 1 and you laughed then buying Season 2 won't be too far out of line. However, if you bought seasons 1 & 2 then what's stopping you from finishing it off and buying 2 more seasons?
