Product Description
The tourist island of Amity is once again threatened by a giant killer white shark when it attacks a group of teenagers.

Amazon.com
Ushering in the age of the inferior sequel, Jaws 2 was essentially a license to print money. Indeed, the film did very well despite blatantly replicating the plot of Steven Spielberg's original, though to lesser effect. Roy Scheider returns as Martin Brody, sheriff of the small island town of Amity. Just as the beachside resort is rebounding from the previous movie's shark attacks, another great white is snacking on divers and water-skiers. Naturally, the town fathers don't want to confront reality and choose to proceed with a lucrative sailing regatta, resulting in a grisly loss of life. Besides the fact that director Jeannot Szwarc takes an impersonal, workaday approach to the film, Jaws 2 manages to be both stylistically flat and openly cynical about its commercial intentions. Of chief interest here is Scheider's performance, which wisely reflects the emotional fallout from Brody's last trauma in his obsessive behavior here. --Tom Keogh

3 out of 5 stars You can't beat the original, but the follow-up is a fun ride   August 28, 2010
Sasha (Raleigh, NC USA)
The first Jaws film can't be outdone. But, of the hundreds of movie sequels I've seen, none quite match their original. That's the case with Jaws 2. This said, it's best to approach the movie with a mind open to a fresh story. Jaws 2 is a follow-up that stands up well on its own, even if you didn't see the first film. It doesn't try to outdo nor "water" down the original. Instead, a new storyline set years later brings a fresh slant on the underwater terror the first movie brought to the big screen. Watching the first film is a must, but I wasn't disappointed with the second installment. In fact, I enjoyed the fact that more characters were featured, suspense was solid and terror was real. If you enjoyed Jaws, you'll like Jaws 2.

3 out of 5 stars Middling sequel is still worth a look   August 26, 2010
New England Pat (Virginia, USA)
The summer resort of Amity again is under siege by a great white shark as was the case in the original blockbuster movie three years earlier. This picture seems to be directed at teens, and groups of them are threatened by the shark as they go boating out in the harbor. There are a few fatalities in the film but there's nothing to compare it to the Stephen Speilberg classic. Roy Scheider and Lorraine Gary return to reprise their roles of chief of police and Mrs. Brody. Okay summer fare that doesn't seem to have its own stamp or separate it from other movies of this type.

3 out of 5 stars Say Ahhhhhhhh   August 25, 2010
Kevin Nolan (U.S.A.)
The first movie ended with a classic line. "Smile you son-of-a-BOOOOM!". That line will live forever. However the money hungry, no talent writers of this film thought they could re-create that magic with "SAY AHHHHH". Buy Jaws 1 and ignore this abomination. The whole Jaws experience is watching the first film. I'll never put on a life-jacket again!

When two divers disappear off of the coast, the pictures from their underwater camera reveal police chief Martin Brody's greatest fear: another Great White shark has begun prowling the waters around Amity Island! JAWS 2 suffered countless problems in production, which caused for the removal of the original director (John D. Hancock) in place of longtime television director Jeannot Szwarc. The resulting film serves as a continuation of the events that occurred four years earlier, bringing back many familiar faces including Roy Scheider and Lorraine Gary as Martin and Ellen Brody, as well as Murray Hamilton and other returning members of Amity's city council. We are also introduced to the town's teens, whose day sailing adventures set the menu for the new shark. The once stern Chief Brody is reduced to a delusional mess when faced with another summer of blood, let alone the disbelieving council members that want to avoid another public humiliation. Unlike in the original, the shark emerges quite early on in this sequel, which relies on the viciousness of the attacks to earn its scares rather than the implied terror of the first. In doing so, the tension and suspense have both been dramatically reduced. John Williams plays a slight variation on his earlier themes, injecting them with a frenetic energy and creating a sense of immediacy in each strike. Outside of the slower pacing, the major flaw with this first sequel is that it attempts to mirror the structure of the original, but with less interesting characters found in the teenagers and a far less epic finale. Where Szwarc does succeed is in establish a sense of continuity in the similar look and feel of the film, while bringing back much of the same humor and heart in the script. As sequels go, it is a valid followup, but one that lacks bite.

4 out of 5 stars Best Jaws sequel   July 29, 2010
Carrot Top
This is a pretty good sequel to the original (especially compared to Jaws 3 and 4). Definitely not as good as Jaws 1, though. It's still a pretty good movie that's worth buying. I wasn't able to watch this movie very many times, but it was still fun to watch.
