Amazon.com Luc Besson (The Fifth Element) made his American directorial debut with this stylized thriller about an Italian hit man (Jean Reno) who takes in an American girl (Natalie Portman) being pursued by a corrupt killer cop (Gary Oldman). Oldman is a little more unhinged than he should be, but there is something genuinely irresistible about the story line and the relationship between Reno and Portman. Rather than cave in to the cookie-cutter look and feel of American action pictures, Besson brings a bit of his glossy style from French hits La Femme Nikita and Subway to the production, and the results are refreshing even if the bullets and explosions are awfully familiar. --Tom Keogh

The Professional rocks! August 22, 2010 D. Hughes (Seattle) Great movie for many reasons. Top notch acting for one - Gary Oldman plays a brilliant and explosive evil genius as a foil to Leon's methodical emotionless professionalism and slavery to routine. The story is engaging - you're drawn in to Matilda's plight very well, and the resulting decision that Leon has to make regarding his relationship with her and how that affects his life as a hitman. The director remembers to have a sense of humor along the ride which adds another surprising dimension. Looked great on blue ray, though wouldn't say it's necessary. Wholeheartedly recommended.
Natalie Portman's completely wonderful performance as a TERRIFIED little girl. August 13, 2010 Cleo (USA) Her movie debut made Natalie Portman a movie star and earned her permanent fan worship. I was just stunned watching her - inside this great visual package of a creative and interesting little girl, all this heavy emotion seemed to be natural and REAL. Her character is completely and understandably terrified surrounded by these awful violent monsters. I always remember her performance when I think about Anne Frank because The Diary of ... didn't convey for me how scared and doomed the targeted children felt. Holocaust is recounted too matter-of-factly.
One of the best movies ever! August 9, 2010 L. PECKUS (chicago, illinois United States) One of the best movies ever! And the extended version too. Killing Zoe and the French version of le Femme Nikita have the same feel too.
Excellence August 4, 2010 Amber Schoenfeld Leon is easily one of my top 5 movies. Reno and Portman work well and easily together, the chemistry of the cast and draw of the action is undeniable.
The Blu-ray offers multiple versions of the film. It was nice to see the uncut version, I had never seen it prior to this release. It also gives an "anniversary" update on the folks who made the film the powerhouse that it is, very nice to see that as well.
If you are on the fence about getting/trying this movie, I say DO IT! No discussion.

Outstanding! Crisp, clear, great sound. Storyline is pure Besson, Portman, Oldman and Reno are a pleasure to watch. Couple that with first-rate portrayals by the secondary characters, and this film rates in my top ten!
