Amazon.com A movie that only true horror buffs could love, Army of Darkness is officially part 3 in the wild and wacky Evil Dead trilogy masterminded by the perversely inventive director Sam Raimi, who would later serve as executive producer of the popular syndicated TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Raimi's favorite actor, Bruce Campbell, returns as Ash (hero of the first two Evil Dead flicks), a hardware-store clerk who is magically transported--along with his beat-up Oldsmobile and a chainsaw attachment for his severed left forearm--to the brutal battlefields of the 14th century. He quickly assumes power (who else in the Middle Ages packs a shotgun and a chainsaw?), and unites his band of medieval knights against the dreaded Army of the Dead. Raimi gleefully subverts almost every horror-movie cliché as he serves up a nonstop parade of blood, gore, and vicious sword-bearing skeletons--an affectionate homage to animator Ray Harryhausen's classic Jason and the Argonauts. The frantic action is fun while it lasts, but even at 80 minutes Army of Darkness nearly wears out its welcome. You know that Raimi can maintain the mayhem for only so long before it grows tiresome, and fortunately this madcap movie quits while it's ahead. --Jeff Shannon
Description Bound in human flesh, inked in blood - and amazingly hard to pronounce - the ancient "Necronomicon" (Book of the Dead) unleashes unspeakable evil upon mankind in director Sam Raimi's (Darkman) outrageously hilarious sword-and-sorcery epic. Back to do battle with the hideous "Deadites", Bruce Campbell reprises his role from the Evil Dead series as Ash, the handsome, shotgun-toting, chainsaw-armed department store clerk from S-Mart's housewares division. Demonic forces time warp him - and his '73 Oldsmobile - into England's Dark Ages, where he romances a beauty (Embeth Davidtz) and faces legions of undead beasts, including a ghastly army of skeletons. Can Ash save the living from the dead, rescue his girlfriend and get back to his own time? Overflowing with spectacular special effects, Army of Darkness will make you scream with fear and laughter. In the words of The Washington Post, it's "drop-dead fun"!

Crap Release June 20, 2010 Dan Petter (Katy, TX United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is strictly a review of the Disk, not the movie.
Army of Darkness, for those who get it, is one of the greatest comedies of all time. That being said, I've bought it probably 5 or 6 times. Thrice on VHS when they kept coming out with different editions. Then I bought a barebones DVD.
Then someone decided to release a fairly definitive DVD - The boomstick edition (which Is hard to find, I was lucky to get it right when it released) That is still the best release this movie has gotten in the U.S.
This Blu-Ray is CRAP. It is not an improvement over the HD-DVD release several years ago(if anyone still remembers HD-DVD). It is practically barebones, and doesnt look much better than the european DVD release.
Barebones crap. GIVE US THE THEATRICAL AND INTERNATIONAL EDITIONS AND THE INCREDIBLY HILARIOUS BRUCE AND SAM COMMENTARY on Blu-Ray.
If this is your intro to Army of Darkness, then BUY THE BLU-RAY! but if you are like me, and you have every line memorized and know every bit of trivia about Evil Dead, then this disk will piss you off.
The Greatest Zombie Spoof EVER! EVER! EVER! May 23, 2010 The Zipper "Shop smart! Shop... S-Mart." I think this movie is THE MOST ENTIRELY AWESOME ZOMBIE SPOOF FILM EVER MADE! Ever!!! We must have watched it 30 times. I mean, Bruce Campbell is great looking but he's also a pretty good actor and he's definitely a great action star. "Who wants some! Huh?" There are fight scenes and surprises and screaming gore in Army like nothing else in any other horror film, not even the Return series, which are hilarious and great but not quite as fun as this one. So I'll leave you with one thought here. "Yeah, I could have stayed in the past. I could have even been King. But my place is here. Hail to the King, baby." YES!!!!!
Boom! Boom! Out Go The Lights!... May 13, 2010 Bindy Sue Frønkünschtein (under the rubble) I never thought that Sam Raimi could possibly do anything crazier than EVIL DEAD 2. I was wrong. ARMY OF DARKNESS is the perfect horror-comedy, w/ an unleashed and unhinged Bruce Campbell reprising his role as Ash. AOD is an overdose of non-stop hilarity and insane slapstick. Campbell has never matched his wild performance here. Almost every line he utters is quotable! His feel for physical comedy is sublime. Watch as Ash takes one flogging after another, battling demons, zombie doppelgangers, and a skeleton army! If you like a bit of madness in your horror, you can't do any better than this classic...
"Who Wants Some!" April 21, 2010 Gregorypwilson (Syracuse, NY USA) Bruce Campbell stars in Sam Raimi's 1992 horror sequel.
A man is sent to 1300 A.D. battling the undead for an
ancient book. This is my favorite of the trilogy and
this is the 2nd dvd release of the film I've bought.
It has better picture quality, good sound plus a
new featurette, the trailer and original ending.
Definitely pick this up.
