Product Description Teaches young children about vowels, consonants, word building, rhyming, and vocabulary.
Amazon.com Building words is an exciting and empowering experience for young children (and frogs) who have mastered individual letters and their sounds. When young Tad wants to nominate his Dad for a "Best Dad" contest he asks his brother Leap and sister Lily for some help filling out the application. The three young frogs go see Professor Quigley at their Father's Talking Word Factory for a little instruction and get to watch the "Sticky-ick-o-rama" and the "Word Whammer" machines at work. Tad quickly discovers that vowels act as the glue that sticks letters together and then learns to combine individual letter sounds to make three-letter words, use common ending sounds to create rhyming words, and blend letter sounds to make even longer rhyming words. Phonemic awareness, vocabulary building, and rhyming are entertaining and fun thanks to familiar Leap Pad characters, colorful animation, and short songs. An interactive word game challenges young viewers to fill in the missing first letter in a variety of three-letter words. This program is a great next step for graduates of Leap Frog: Talking Letters Factory and children ages 3 to 6. Tami Horiuchi

As a reading specialist, I think this DVD is great... September 5, 2010 E. Volenec (Schaumburg, IL United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a reading specialist, I am extremely concerned about all of the non-phonics programs out there such as "hooked on phonics" and "your baby can read." Whenever, people mention any of these programs to me, I immediately refer them to this DVD and Leap Frog's Letter Factory. In LeapFrog - Letter Factory, children are taught the sounds of letters along with the names. Although, I personally don't think that the names of letters are as important as sounds (The first words taught don't use names. Example: bat), I am not completely opposed to children learning them as long as the sounds are also taught.
In the Talking Words DVD, children learn to take the next step and blend the sounds into words. This is why I like these DVDs so much and what sets them apart from other programs. Although children could probably easily memorize many easy words at this age, when they encounter more difficult words later one, they will have no idea how to decode them if they are not taught how to break the words down into sounds or chunks. Talking Words shows them how to do this enabling success in reading later on in life.
In closing, I'd like to mention that my two-year-old knows all of her sounds and names. She is now working on blending and loves these DVDs.
MY BABY (2 years old) CAN READ!!! August 28, 2010 E. Wooten This product was great!!! My two year old watched it over and over again until he almost memorized the dvd. I bought some "sight word" cards thinking I could start going over them with him when he turns three. Well he found the cards, opened the pack, and started sounding out and reading them!!! (not all of them, but I was amazed to see him sound out words he never saw before!!!) I'm about to purchase the next dvd to keep him going!!
I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!!! July 26, 2010 4mykids I have a 2year old with speech delay. I have tried so many different learning tools. I had problems finding learning aids that keep his attention and wanting to learn more. After my recent purchase of letter factory and talking words by leap frog I have seen a huge improvement in my childs vocab. He is sounding out words and saying letters. He loves the DVDs. I am definitly going to purchase the number and color dvd by leap frog. I recommend the entire serious of these dvds to any parent for their child.

Learn to read July 20, 2010 Pcourt This is a great way to introduce 3 letter words. My 2.5 yr. old has just started sounding out 3 letters. I use this combined with the "Your Baby can read". she likes this video but i think she likes Letter factory a little better.
